ATP ANALYSIS: Breaking down Roger Federer's 200 victories against Top 10 rivals

Roger Federer came to this year's Australian Open as the 17th seed and without an official match since Wimbledon last year! Rested and eager to show his everlasting class once again, Swiss maestro produced some inspiring tennis to reach the quarter-final for the 13th time, beating two Top 10 players in round 3 and 4. Federer was flying over the court against Tomas Berdych in straight sets victory, reminding us of a vintage Roger that we all missed so far, and he also managed to overpower Kei Nishikori in 5 sets, which was the victory that marked another huge milestone for 17-time Grand Slam champion.

Namely, that was Roger's 200th ATP win over the Top 10 rivals, and that record will be on the top tier of his achievements that he collected over the last 13 or 14 years! His first Top 10 triumph came way back in February 1999, when he was still 17-year-old, edging world number 5 Carlos Moya by 7-6 3-6 6-3 in the first round of Marseille. That was only his 4th ATP tournament and he was ranked outside the Top 200 at that point, but his first match against Top 10 rivals came in his hometown of Basel against none other than Andre Agassi, who beat Roger 6-3 6-2.

Since then, Roger has played a total number of 307 matches versus the opponents from the leading group of the men's tennis, with a 200-107 record so far. Over the years, Federer battled against numerous players that were in the Top 10 at that moment, from those who left their mark in the period before Roger's time, to all his coevals and others that came after, including the names like Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Nishikori, Wawrinka, Berdych and Raonic.

Some of them almost aways stood on Roger's path towards the lifting some of the biggest titles that the sport has to offer, and Swiss had to prove his class over and over again, as he was the player to beat for all those rivals.

Australian Open is the 85th tournament in which 35-year-old Roger scored at least 2 Top 10 wins, and we are going to break this huge achievement he just accomplished, with some interesting numbers and facts.
