Wimbledon - Malisse Upsets Simon, Verdasco Wins

Former Wimbledon semi-finalist Xavier Malisse scored a major upset at Wimbledon on Thursday, beating 13th seed Gilles Simon 6-4, 6-4, 7-6(5). Malisse, who has been struggling with his form this year, was in control from the start of the match, and never seemed in danger of losing.

“I'm very happy,” he said after the encounter. “I played well. I've never beaten him. It's always tough to play someone you've never won against. [I am] very happy to win in three [sets], because if I lose the tie-breaker, it's [a] totally different match and he could come back.

He never gives up.” He will face Fernando Verdasco next, after the Spaniard beat Grega Zemlja 7-6(4), 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-3.
