The inaugural Laver Cup is just around the corner, with some of the biggest tennis stars set to compete in a 3-day action, starting from Friday the O2 Arena in Prague. In the Team Europe, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Alexander Zverev, Marin Cilic, Dominic Thiem and Tomas Berdych will try to clinch the trophy against the rest of the world, battling against the finest players from the United States, Canada, and Australia.
John Isner, Jack Sock, Sam Querrey, Nick Kyrgios and Denis Shapovalov will try to still the glory, and they will be backed by Frances Tiafoe, who will replace Juan Martin del Potro after he failed to recover from his semi-final run at the US Open, where he lost to Rafael Nadal. The Argentine, who struggled with numerous injuries throughout his career, is not at his 100% yet and he decided to skip this event and prepare himself for the remaining tournaments until the end of the season.
Frances is the second youngest player in the Top 100, behind Denis Shapovalov, and he may get a chance to avenge the heartbreaking first round loss at the US Open to Roger Federer in 5 sets.
"With much sadness, I have to announce that I will not be able to compete in the first Laver Cup, as I am not completely healthy," said del Potro. "It was an honor to be selected to participate in this event and I am sure it will be a great success."ALSO READ: ATP ANALYSIS: Nadal realizes his master plan to beat Anderson at US Open
