Roger Federer is one of the six contenders for the BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year award for 2017. He has won the award on three previous occasions – in 2004, 2006 and 2007. The winning sportsperson will be revealed on 17 December.
2017 has been a year to remember for tennis fans and nobody's face has been more a part of the year than Roger Federer, in his splendid return to form. His achievements this past year - as he returned from a six-month injury layout by winning two Grand Slams to add to his existing record and taking it to 19 in total - has been something special to watch. The world number two has defied age and all expectation. Should he pick up the award there could hardly be a more fitting recipient.
