Staged at the Racquet Club of Memphis, the only ATP tournament in the United States played on the indoor hard courts was held in Memphis between 1975-2017. Sadly, it had to be moved to a new location when the organizers failed to find the sponsors, and the tournament found its new home in New York, at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island.
Scheduled for the 6th week of the season between February 12-18 together with Rotterdam and Buenos Aires, New York Open managed to gather a high-quality field of players, led by Sam Querrey, Kei Nishikori. Kevin Anderson, John Isner, Steve Johnson, Ryan Harrison and youngsters Frances Tiafoe, Noah Rubin and Reilly Opelka.
The newest event of the season will also bring a unique feature, unseen on the ATP Tour before. Courts will be covered with 150 gallons of black paint and each will be deconstructed into 425 pieces before shipping to New York in order to be ready for the third week of February.
Thus, this will become the first tournament on the ATP Tour with the black court (lines must be white), that was already seen in Prague during the Laver Cup, provoking positive vibes from both the players and the spectators.
