Injuries force Andrey Rublev and Filip Krajinovic to miss Roland Garros

After his loss to Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second round of Miami, Roger Federer has ruled himself out from the clay season, just like in 2017, which is certainly the biggest blow for the organizers of the second Grand Slam event at Roland Garros.

Hyeon Chung had to withdraw due to an ankle injury as well and the other two players who would have been the seeds if they were able to play are Andrey Rublev and Filip Krajinovic, both being forced to miss the action in Paris due to injuries they are carrying for over a month now.

The 20-year-old Russian has won 10 matches on the Tour in the first four events of the season, playing in the final of Doha and in the quarters of Montpellier and Rotterdam, with two triumphs at the Australian Open as well.

He couldn't keep the same pace, though, losing six of the last seven matches he has played and struggling with a back injury that forced him to skip all the tournaments after Monte Carlo where he lost to Dominic Thiem in three close sets.

Andrey made his Roland Garros debut last year and it certainly was a memorable one, losing to Diego Schwartzman 9-7 in the deciding set after three and a half hours of grueling battle. World number 29 Filip Krajinovic had to miss the Australian Open due to Achilles tendon injury and his leg is bothering him again in the recent weeks, unable to play for two months now in what has been another setback of his already vastly injury-prone career.

Filip has won nine matches on the Tour so far in 2018 but he couldn't compete after Miami and we won't see him in Paris as well, missing the opportunity to chase his first win at this Major (first round defeat in 2012 and 2015) as a seeded player.

It is still uncertain when we are going to see Filip and Andrey on the court again but they are not rushing the things up, waiting for the perfect moment to make a comeback as soon as they recover from the injuries. ALSO READ: ATP Roland Garros - MAIN DRAW: Nadal is favorite.
