Ukrainian tennis ace Alexandr Dolgopolov won't be kicking off his 2018 grass-court season next week as he has withdrawn from the Nature Valley International in Eastbourne. The 29-year-was expected to play on the grass of Eastbourne for the first time since 2013 -- when he lost in round one to Spaniard Fernando Verdasco.
Overall, the Ukrainian has played in Eastbourne three times so far in his career -- made the semi-final in his debut appearance in 2010 before he lost his openers in 2011 and 2013. Dolgopolov has missed a good part of the 2018 season due to health issues as he has played only two events since the Australian Open -- Marrakech and the Rome Masters.
It remains to be seen will the Ukrainian be ready for Wimbledon -- which is due to kick off on 2 July. Meanwhile, a place in the Eastbourne main draw has opened for Chilean Nicolas Jarry following the withdrawal of Dolgopolov.
World No. 68 Jarry is set to debut at the British grass-court tournament as he has no previous appearances at the event. Also read: Daniel Evans: I've had easily worst past of any British players
