Jack Sock's terrible 2018 season continues. The American tennis player won just five matches this year and lost 13. Now he has withdrawn from Atlanta Open due to an ankle injury. 'I'm sorry to say, I will not be able to play in Atlanta, in 2018, due to an injury I sustained in practice leading up to the tournament,' the world no. 14 said in a press statement, promising that he will come back there next year.
In 2018 Sock defeated David Ferrer in Rome, Horacio Zeballos in Houston, Yuki Bhambri in Miami, Thomas Fabbiano in Indian Wells and John Patrick Smith in Delray Beach. He never won more than one match in the same tournament. From Rome second round against the German Philipp Kohlschreiber to Wimbledon first round vs the Italian Matteo Berrettini, Sock lost six matches in a row. He is set to compete again in Los Cabos, Mexico, that starts on July 31st.
The world no. 4 Juan Martin del Potro. John Isner, Nick Kyrgios and Hyeon Chung are the top seeds in Atlanta.
Kyrgios will be one of the favorites to win the title. Through a statement, announcing his appearance a few weeks ago, Nick said: 'Atlanta is just a great sports town and I feed off that. I felt the support of the sold-out stadium crowds and can't wait to spend another week in Atlanta at a great venue in Atlantic Station and in front of passionate tennis fans.'
