Poland's Lukasz Kubot and Brazilian partner Marcelo Melo have qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals. Kubot, 36, and 35-year-old will be featuring at The O2 Arena for the second consecutive season. No. 3 seeds Kubot and Melo secured a spot for the prestigious season-ending event after beating second-seeded Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic in the Rolex Shanghai Masters semi-final 6-2 7-5.
Kubot and Melo will be bidding to win their fourth team title of the year when they meet No. 6 seeds Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares in the Shanghai final. Kubot and Melo have won one title from the ATP 250 category this year -- at the Sydney International -- and two from the ATP 500 categories as they made it all the way at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle and the China Open in Beijing respectively.
Kubot and Melo haven't won any Grand Slam titles this year but adding a Masters 1000 title and the 2018 ATP Finals title would still make it an exceptional campaign. Kubot and Melo fell just short of making it all the way at The O2 Arena in their debut team appearance.
Henri Kontinen and John Peers proved to be too much for Kubot and Melo in the doubles final of the 2017 ATP Finals event as they scored a 6-4 6-2 win. Melo is a two-time Nitto ATP Finals runner-up, having lost the 2014 final with Croatian Ivan Dodig Back then, the Brazilian and the 33-year-old Croatian won the opening set of the final against Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan -- but it wasn't enough as the Bryan brothers made a big comeback to win the title.
