Nadal squeaks past Isner in 5 set, 4 hour epic

The first set was fairly standard, with John Isner serving big and Nadal winning the rallies when the ball was actually in play. Much has been said about the quicker courts this year and the quicker balls, and this match showcased it to the max.

Isner in the second and third sets played massive tennis, throwing down bombs, hitting superb volleys, and drop shots when Nadal is way behind the baseline. Isner took the 2nd and 3rd sets in tiebreaks and it looked like Nadal might lose in one of the biggest upsets in the history of the game.

But Nadal, like a true champion, rebounded to win the 4th set 6-2. Isner appeared to be tiring both physically and mentally in the 4th and 5th, while Nadal dug in and fought like a dog for every single point. Isner saved match point at 3-5 in the 5th before Nadal closed it out at 6-4.
