American Mardy Fish is having himself a decent run here on clay, reaching the third round at Roland Garros after taking out Dutchman Robin Haase. The first set was pretty tight, going into a tiebreak, but Haase played a wretched tiebreak to lose 1-7 before playing even worse to lose the next two sets 2-6, 1-6! Fish marches on.
4th seeded Andy Murray struggled out there today with both the wind and Simone Bolelli. Bolelli served for both the first and third sets, but his mental fragility reared its ugly head once again as it so often does in his matches and Murray scratched and clawed and defended his way to Bolelli errors.
Murray ended up winning 7-6(3), 6-4, 7-5. Spaniard Fernando Verdasco appears to be breaking his slump, winning back to back matches here, winning over Xavier Malisse in 4 sets. It was split at one set all and the third set tiebreak was crucial.
Verdasco won it before breezing past 6-1 in the 4th set. Old man King Ivan Ljubicic still proves he can play by beating 24 seed Sam Querrey in straights! Ljubo was too crafty for the big American and will play Verdasco in the next round.
