ATP Eastbourne- Tsonga wins first round match

Just one day after playing the final in Queens, Tsonga was in Eastbourne winning against Denis Istomin 6-2, 7-5. Tsonga is playing some great grass court tennis and is looking to win this title en route to a great Wimbledon.

Japanese talent Kei Nishikori beat Evgeny Kirillov the qualifier 7-5, 6-1. Nishikori is another player who excells on grass and has a chance to even win the title this week and do damage at Wimbledon. Old man Rainer Schuettler the qualifier destroyed 5 seed Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-3, 6-2.

Rainer, he just never gets old! 6 foot 7 Kevin Anderson beat qualifier Alex Slabinsky 7-5, 6-3. His serve is very difficult to deal with on any surface, but especially on grass. Qualifier Donald Young beat wildcard Daniel Cox 6-1, 7-5.

Young's career has always been controversial, and he finally qualified this time and might do well this week in a shortened field. Unfortunately, former world #1 Lleyton Hewitt had to retire down a set and 0-3 to Olivier Rochus.

The Aussie's body seems to truly be failing him this year and he may be close to calling it a career. Always sad to see a great hall of fame tennis player nearing the end of hus days. Other results today: (1) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga def.
