Rising German stat Rudolf Molleker is set to collaborate again with coach Jan Velthuis, per Florian Heer. The 18-year-old announced the news after winning his first round match in Hamburg. The two will kick off their partnership at the Augsburg Challenger next month.
Molleker will be hoping to take his game to another level with the addition of coach Velthuis. The German recently fell just short of winning it all at the Poznan Challenger as he ended runner-up at the tournament but still reached his career-high ranking of No.
147 in the world at the beginning of July. The 18-year-old is now motivated to have a good week in front of his home fans in Hamburg. Molleker, who was handed a wildcard into Hamburg, beat two-time Hamburg champion Leonardo Mayer 7-6 (8) 6-4 to progress into the round-of-16.
Despite being just 18 years old, the German is playing in Hamburg for the third time. Previously, Molleker suffered a first round loss in Hamburg two years ago before he made the round-of-16 last year respectively. Molleker plays next against the winner of the match between No. 3 seed Fabio Fognini and qualifier Julian Lenz.
