Rising French star Ugo Humbert has withdrawn late from the Citi Open in Washington. The 21-year-old appeared to be set to make his debut in Washington but that won't be the case. The Frenchman pulled out of the event after the draw was already made.
Humbert, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 46 in the world, was drawn to meet fellow compatriot Jo Wilfried Tsonga in the first round. The 21-year-old is set to take a break following an exhausting period. The Frenchman played in each week of the grass season -- a total of six events -- and then made a trip from Newport to play at this week's hard-court event in Atlanta.
As expected, a quick switch from grass to hard wasn't easy as Humbert beat college player Cole Gromley in the Atlanta first round before winning only four games against Miomir Kecmanovic in the round-of-16. Humbert will now take a couple of days off to refresh himself and get back ready to continue his rise and improvement. The Frenchman will be replaced in Washington by a lucky loser.
