World No. 13 Roberto Bautista Agut has become the latest star to join a star-studded Swiss Open Basel player field as the Spaniard will be making his third consecutive Basel appearance this fall, per Michal Samulski. The 31-year-old will be targeting to make a breakthrough in Basel this year from October 21-27 as his previous two campaigns at the Swiss ATP 500 event ended with a quarterfinal defeat.
Eventual runner-up Juan Martin del Potro put an end to Bautista Agut's Basel campaign in 2017, before world No. 5 Alexander Zverev sent the Spaniard packing out of the event a year later. Bautista Agut has enjoyed a good season so far as he recently made his maiden Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon before losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in a four-set battle.
Bautista Agut joins a strong Basel player field which includes record nine-time champion Roger Federer, world No. 5 Alexander Zverev, sixth-ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas, 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic, world No. 9 Fabio Fognini and three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka.
