ATP Eastbourne- Andreas Seppi wins first ATP title in wild Eastbourne final

The first set was tight, really tight. Both guys were gunning for their maiden ATP title, and both guys were nervy, especially in the tiebreak. Tipsarevic saved two set points, but gave the last one away with a very low percentage winner attempt.

In the second set, it looked like Seppi was going to take it in straights. Tipsarevic was doing all he could just to hold. Seppi got tight at 3-4, and gave the break away, perhaps mentally reeling after all of his chances. Tipsarevic pounced and closed the set out 6-3.

In the third, Tipsarevic began to crack mentally. He was complaining to the umpire that the match should be suspended due to the clouds. The ump wasn’t buying it. Tipsarevic went into meltdown mode and Seppi played solid to go up 4-0 when they ended up suspending play anyway.

Tipsarevic broke a racquet and uttered a few choice words to the ump and crowd. When they came back from the rain delay, Tipsarevic broke, held, and then broke again! At 3-4, Tipsarevic goes down love 30, slips on the grass and appears to slightly pull his groin.

Of course Tipsarevic made it seem like he had been shot, but play continued. Seppi ended up breaking amid Tipsarevic’s swearing and theatrics for 5-3. Seppi wins a point on his serve, 15-0, before Tipsarevic cowardly retires. Incredible drama in this one.
