Per Michal Samulski, Italian tennis star Fabio Fognini has signed up to play at the Stockholm Open for a third consecutive year as the 32-year-old will be aiming for a maiden Stockholm title after two semifinal showings at the tournament.
The Italian survived two tight clashes to reach the semifinal in his Stockholm debut -- before he ran out of energy as former world No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov beat him in straight sets when they met. World No. 11 Fognini, who had a first round in Stockholm last year, earned two straight-set wins to make back-to-back Stockholm semifinals -- before his campaign came to and end after a straight-set loss suffered against eventual champion Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The 32-year-old will certainly be among the top favorites to make it all the way in Stockholm this year as he is enjoying a career-best season on the tour -- which saw him win his maiden Masters title in Monte Carlo and reach a career-high ranking of No. 9 in the world. The Stockholm Open is due to take place from October 14-20.
