Rising Canadian star Denis Shapovalov has signed up to play at the Stockholm Open this year, per Michal Samulski. Shapovalov, ranked at No. 33 in the world, is set to make back-to-back appearances on the indoor-hard courts of Stockholm.
The 20-year-old debuted at the Stockholm event last year but failed to impress as his campaign came to an end in the round-of-16 stage. Shapovalov had to work hard to earn his maiden win in Stockholm as he edged out fellow compatriot Peter Polansky in a tight first round clash.
The Canadian failed to lift his game in his following match as he was handed a straight-set defeat by former world No. 10 Ernests Gulbis. Former world No. 20 Shapovalov will certainly be aiming make a deep run in Stockholm this year and make amends for last year's early exit at the tournament.
The 20-year-old is the second player confirmed for Stockholm as he joins world No. 11 Fabio Fognini in the tournament's 2019 player field. The Stockholm Open will take place from October 14-20.
