Poland's Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo have become the second team to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals. Kubot, 37, and 36-year-old Melo booked a place at the prestigious season-ending event after a quarterfinal win at the Shanghai Masters on Friday.
Kubot and Melo, seeded at No. 2, beat Ivan Dodig and Filip Polasek 6-4 7-6 (2) to set up a Shanghai semifinal against Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin. Kubot and Melo are set to compete together at the Nitto ATP Finals for the third year in a row.
The two fell just short of having a dream team debut at The O2 Arena in 2017 as they ended runners-up in the final to Henri Kontinen and John Peers. Kubot and Melo disappointed a bit at the season-ending event last year, having failed to make it past the Round Robin stage.
Kubot and Melo have been one of the most consistent teams this season but that hasn't resulted in many titles captured. Kubot and Melo won the Winston-Salem title this year, while they ended runners-up at the Indian Wells Masters, Halle and Beijing.
