French tennis star Lucas Pouille, 25, has withdrawn from the Erste Bank Open 500 in Vienna. The 25-year-old won't be making his fourth appearance on the indoor-hard courts of Vienna this year. Pouille debuted at the Vienna event in 2016 but didn't impress in his debut appearance at the tournament.
Back then, the Frenchman picked up a first round loss to Spain's Feliciano Lopez. However, Pouille made amends for his disappointing Vienna debut next year as he beat fellow compatriot Jo Wilfried Tsonga in the final to his first title at the event.
The Frenchman returned to Vienna as the defending champion last year but failed to defend his title after losing to Croatian Borna Coric in the round-of-16. It remains to be seen will Pouille return to Vienna next year. Meanwhile, a place in the Vienna main draw has opened for Jordan Thompson following the withdrawal of Pouille. The 25-year-old has no previous appearances in Vienna. The Australian is enjoying a breakthrough season on the Tour.
