Italian tennis star Fabio Fognini has signed up to play at the Open 13 Provence in Marseille next year, the tournament announced on Tuesday. The 32-year-old will be making his debut appearance on the indoor-hard courts of Marseille in February as he has no previous appearances at the tournament .
Fognini, ranked at No. 12 in the world, joins a star-studded Marseille player field which will be competing from February 17-23. It won't be easy for the Italian to win it all in Marseille as defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, Russian stars Daniil Medvedev and Karen Khachanov, as well as rising Canadian stars Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime, are also expected to play.
Three-time Marseille champion Jo Wilfried Tsonga, 2017 Nitto ATP Finals runner-up David Goffin and world No. 24 Benoit Paire will also be battling for the Marseille glory next year. It remains to be seen can nine-time ATP champion Fognini make a splash in Marseille next year and have a dream debut at the French ATP 250 event.
