French tennis star Gael Monfils has signed up to play the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi, the tournament announced on Wednesday. The 33-year-old will start his season at the popular Abu Dhabi exhibition only for the second time in his career as the Frenchman is set to return to the tournament for the first time since 2012.
Monfils, ranked at No. 10 in the world, didn't have a dream Abu Dhabi debut back in 2012 as he was beaten in the quarterfinals by eventual champion Novak Djokovic. 1 Rafael Nadal and Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev are also expected to play at the event from December 19-21. It remains to be seen can eight-time ATP champion and former world No. 6 Monfils earn a couple of big wins at the Abu Dhabi exhibition in his first tournament of 2020 and potentially claim the title.
