Guido Pella to challenge Thiem, Schwartzman and Berrettini in Buenos Aires

The Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club will host the ATP 250 event for the 20th consecutive year between February 10-16, 2020, gathering excellent clay courters who will battle for the title in the second stop of the Latin American "Golden Swing" after Cordoba.

Gustavo Kuerten, Carlos Moya, Guillermo Coria, Gaston Gaudio, David Nalbandian, Tommy Robredo, Juan Carlos Ferrero, David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal had all won the title here in the past, joined by Dominic Thiem who went all the way in 2016 and 2018.

This February, Dominic Thiem, Diego Schwartzman, Guido Pella and Marco Cecchinato reached the semi-final and it was the Italian who grabbed the title after beating tired Schwartzman who battled for two and a half hours against Thiem on the previous day.

The organizers have already confirmed four players for the next year's edition, with Dominic Thiem, Diego Schwartzman and Matteo Berrettini as the leading figures backed by Guido Pella who will compete in the main draw of the home ATP 250 event for the eighth straight year.

Making progress through the ranking list in every year since 2016, Pella will complete the 2019 action in the top-25 for the first time, scoring 36 victories on the Tour and cracking the top-20 back in August. Guido claimed the first ATP title in Sao Paulo on indoor clay following good runs in Cordoba and Buenos Aires, advancing into the quarter-final in Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Munich as well.

Out of sudden, the Argentine found himself in the quarter-final at Wimbledon after a thrilling victory over Milos Raonic, keeping the form and advancing into the semi-final in Los Cabos and the third round in Montreal. For ten years, Pella couldn't do much in Buenos Aires, losing in the qualifying round or early in the main draw, changing that in 2018 when he reached the quarters and this February when we watched him in the semis, hoping to make an extra step and fight for the title in two months.
