Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic lead strong Mubadala WTC draw

The 12th edition of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi takes place between December 19-21, bringing one of the most energetic fields in the history of the event. The first Mubadala WTC tournament took place in January 2009 and has always gathered the most prominent tennis stars, often from the very top.

The crowd at Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex witnessed both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal winning four titles at this event, with two more for Andy Murray who celebrated in 2009 and 2015. The organizers had given their best to sign the most attractive field for 2019 edition as well, with five top-10 stars entering the title chase, including the world's leading players Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

The US Open finalist Daniil Medvedev, the ATP Finals winner Stefanos Tsitsipas, Gael Monfils and Hyeon Chung are also in contention, trying to get the best possible preparation for the start of the new season and challenge the favorites.

Alongside men's action, there is also a thrilling women's contest between Maria Sharapova and the upcoming star Amanda Anisimova, set for the opening day on Tuesday 19. Before that, two men's quarter-final encounters will take place, with Stefanos Tsitsipas taking upon Gael Monfils and Daniil Medvedev who will fight against the coeval Hyeon Chung.

Tsitsipas or Monfils will challenge Novak Djokovic on Friday, December 20, with the Serb hoping to make the best possible start after disappointing results at the ATP Finals against Dominic Thiem and Roger Federer that cost him the year-end no.

1 spot. In the other semi-final, world no. 1 Rafael Nadal returns to action in Mubadala against his old rival Medvedev or Chung whom he also beat en route to the fourth US Open crown in September. On Saturday, December 21, the beaten semi-finalists will play for the third place before the title clash match that should mark the pinnacle of the three-day action in the desert.
