World No. 11 David Goffin has signed up to play at the Open Sud de France in Montpellier next year, per Michal Samulski. The 29-year-old is set to make his third main draw appearance on the indoor-hard courts of Montpellier.
Goffin's first attempt in Montpellier came in 2010, when he unsuccessfully tried to make the main draw through the qualifying event. The Belgian returned to Montpellier two years later but once again failed to make it past the qualifying event.
Eight years after his first attempt at the tournament, Goffin finally made his Montpellier main draw debut in 2018. Goffin was two wins away from winning it all in his Montpellier debut as he was beaten in the semifinal by home favorite Richard Gasquet.
This year, the Belgian's Montpellier campaign was short-lived as he lost to Filip Krajinovic in his opener at the tournament. Former world No. 7 Goffin will be among the favorites to make a splash in Montpellier next year but it won't be easy.
Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, Denis Shapovalov and Fabio Fognini are some of the players who are also expected to play in Montpellier next year. The Open Sud de France is scheduled to take place from February 03-09.
