Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka and rising American star Frances Tiafoe have signed up to play doubles together at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha, per Michal Samulski. Wawrinka, 34, and 21-year-old Tiafoe -- who are both primarily focused on the singles -- will debut as a pair in Doha as they have no previous appearances together.
Wawrinka, ranked at No. 16 in the world, played doubles five times in 2019 and his best result of the year came at the Montreal Masters -- where he and Benoit Paire made the quarterfinal before giving a walkover to Rohan Bopanna and Denis Shapovalov.
On the other side, world No. 47 Tiafoe made only two doubles appearances this past season as he reached the Acapulco quarterfinal with Robert Lindstedt and lost his opener at the Atlanta Open with Nick Monroe, respectively.
Former world No. 3 Wawrinka played doubles in Doha last year as well but didn't achieve a notable result as he and partner Karen Khachanov lost to David Goffin and Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the opening round.
