The Miami Masters has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak, reports Sky Sports Italy. On Sunday, the Indian Wells Masters became the first major United States sporting event to get cancelled over the coronavirus concerns.
Canceling the whole Indian Wells event didn't sit well with some players as many feared that other tournaments would follow the same path and cancel their events. However, the Miami Masters organizers released a statement on Monday, confirming they were planning to proceed with the event as scheduled.
But the chances of seeing this year's Miami Masters suffered a huge blow on Wednesday when the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a pandemic. Now there is a strong chance that tennis is facing a lengthy break as Russell Fuller of BBC reported: "Stand by for a possible six week suspension of both the ATP and WTA Tours - the player councils are meeting today, and that seems to be the direction of travel (for the players, at least)."
