France's Benoit Paire is one of the most charismatic players on the tour. The Frenchman is known for his frank opinions and flamboyant style of play and says he is trying to make sure he is more calm and happy on the court when he is playing.
Speaking to the ATP Tour website, Paire comments, “I watched tennis on TV growing up, and I thought it would be incredible just to one day play one match at this level. It’s very important to enjoy when everything is fine on court.
It’s never easy to play tennis for four, five years in a row. After my surgery, in 2015, I had to work a lot to think about what to do to enjoy more on court, to be more calm, and that’s what I did”. 2019 was the best season for Paire on the tour - winning two titles for the first time in his career - in Marrakech and Lyon.
"It was a long season, very good for me, two titles. Since this tournament in Marrakech with confidence, with everything, we were able to make a good season. Then a new title in Lyon, so honestly for me it was a very good season.
It’s good to win one tournament. But I want to win more and make more finals”. Speaking about his style of play, Paire says he wants to have fun on court. "That’s why I play tennis: to have fun on court, to enjoy, to try some hot shots.
Sometimes it’s working, sometimes it’s not. But I will try more for 2020”. The 30 year old Frenchman's best result in a Grand Slam has been reaching the fourth round, which he has achieved on four occasions and his career-high singles ranking is World No. 18.
