Speaking with Punto de Break, Gonzalez says "Cristian Garin is a tremendous player. It will depend on him how far he goes in the future. Clearly, he's in for a great time, with his best ranking, and he can keep going up.
On whether he can be better than me? I think he could very well be. As I say, it will depend on him ”. Garin started coming to prominence last year, finishing as runner-up in the 2019 Brasil Open, wining his first ATP Tour title at the 2019 U.S.
Men's Clay Court Championships and his second title at the 2019 BMW Open. The Chilean won his third title in early 2020, at the 2020 Córdoba Open and then won his first ATP Tour 500 title (fourth overall) at the 2020 Rio Open to become the sixth-ever Chilean man to be ranked in the Top 20.
