Tennis - The list of withdrawals continues to grow longer for the Sony Open in Miami with the latest men's player pulling out being Stanislas Wawrinka, The Swiss has pulled out of the Masters Series event which starts next week due to arm and back injuries.
Wawrinka lost in the fourth round of this week's Indian Wells event, losing to countryman Roger Federer in three tight sets. Wawrinka is the latest player to withdraw from the event with Mardy Fish and Ernests Gulbis also pulling out.
Federer, himself, had never planned to play the event when he chalked out his schedule for the 2013 season. The Sony Open in Miami was once considered at par with Indian Wells. But with the recent improvements in infratsructure and prize money it seems like Miami is now behind Indian Wells when it comes to stature.
On the women's side as well there are some fitness concerns. World no. 2 Victoria Azarenka and world no. 9 Sam Stosur are questionable for Miami after pulling out of Indian Wells this week due to injuries.
