FFT excludes Benoit Paire from French Olympic team

French tennis star Benoit Paire has been sanctioned by the French Tennis Federation as he has been excluded from the French team for the Tokyo Olympics. Over the last two months Paire several tines spoke about how he has lost the spark and enjoy for the game while the Tour are being staged behind the closed doors without fans.

"I have nothing to expect,” Paire recently told reporters after losing to Jordan Thompson in the Monte Carlo Masters first round. “I just don’t care. There’s no magic. What is the pleasure playing like this? Of course, it’s great to come here, but it’s like a practice session.

If you’ve experienced the tour and you see how it is now, the only thing you want is to just go away."

Paire doesn't enjoy the Tour anymore but it brings him money

"As I told you, I just don’t care,” Paire said.

“You don’t know how it is. This doesn’t bring me anything except a bit more money. But there’s no pleasure in playing. The players who are there say they enjoy playing Monte-Carlo. I respect that a lot. But how sad is this for them? Normally this court is one of the most beautiful courts in the world.

It seems like we are in a cemetery. Whether you win a point or miss, it’s the same. There’s no atmosphere. It’s the same thing." Paire also suggested that nowadays he loves being home as there he is not required to wear a mask.

"You’re going to say it’s like normal life, but normal life is shit,” Paire told reporters. “The only pleasure I have is when I’m home without my mask and I don’t care about the COVID.

That’s when I feel good." Paire continued his losing streak this week in Barcelona as he lost to Federico Gaio in his opener at the tournament. Paire's last win came at the Cordoba Open. where he beat Nicolas Jarry in the round-of-16. Since the Jarry win, Paire has lost seven consecutive matches.
