American Jamie Hampton withdraws from Australian Open

American tennis player Jamie Hampton has pulled out of the Australian Open, citing a hip injury. According to the Associated Press, tournament officials said that Hampton will be replaced by another American, lucky loser Irini Falconi, who will play Jana Cepelova of Slovakia in the first round at Melbourne Park.

Hampton was seeded 27th in the tournament, a placing that will now go to Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia, the report said further. Hampton, 24, who is currently ranked 27th in the official Women's Tennis Association rankings, could face a downfall as she reached the third round of the tournament last year.
