American tennis star John Isner wasn't really surprised by his winning run in Newport. No. 1 seed Isner handed a straight-set defeat to seventh-seeded Alexander Bublik 7-6 (2) 6-3 in the Newport final. The 34-year-old now holds a record of four Newport titles won.
Isner's focus now turns to Atlanta, where he will be the top seed and aiming to win a record six title. "Well, I have a knack of once I win the tournament I genuinely keep doing well in it. I have won this tournament four times, I have won Atlanta five times...
Just next week i'm going for number six," Isner told Andy Katz post-match. Isner won 13 of his 15 titles in front of his home fans. The Americans lone two titles outside the United States came in Auckland, New Zealand.
"So I guess I'm sort of a creature of habit. I get in places that I'm very comfortable in and I start to play well and those places for me are in America. You know, I have never won a tournament in Europe and I have been playing for a long time but I'm fortunate that I have a lot of tournaments that I can play here in the states," Isner added.
