Top-ranked American John Isner has committed to play the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship next year, the tournament announced. The 34-year-old is set to return to the clay courts of Houston in 2020 after missing the event this past season due to a foot injury.
Isner, who made his Houston debut in 2008, collected 11 consecutive appearances at the event between 2008 and 2018. World No. 19 Isner captured his lone Houston title in 2012, when he beat Nicolas Almagro in the final. A year earlier, the American fell just short of winning the title as he ended runner-up in the final to Juan Monaco.
Houston Tournament Director Bronwyn Greer is thrilled to have Isner in the 2020 player field. "John is like family to our patrons, and we are very excited to welcome him, and his growing family, back to River Oaks,” Greer said.
“John has been among the most consistent players on tour for the past 10-plus years, and we are thrilled that US Clay has been a regular stop for him during his career." The Houston event will take place from April 06-12.
