World No. 19 John Isner enjoyed playing at the inaugural Diriyah Tennis Cup. The American was one of eight players that competed for the title on the outskirts of Riyadh. The 34-year-old hopes to return to the Diriyah Tennis Cup in the future.
"Had an amazing time in Saudi Arabia playing the Diriyah Cup. Thank you so much for having me and I most certainly hope to be back!" Isner said in a Twitter post. Isner was beaten in the quarterfinal as he lost to Italy's Fabio Fognini on the opening day of the event.
After losing to world No. 12 Fognini, Isner improved his level and won his next two matches. Isner beat three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka on Friday, before beating Jan-Lennard Struff on Saturday to finish on the third place.
Daniil Medvedev, who made nine finals this past season, claimed the inaugural Diriyah Tennis Cup title. The fifth-ranked Russian saw off Fognini in the final to become the first-ever winner at the Saudi exhibition.
