Louis Armstrong Stadium Being Used to Prepare Food Packages for Frontline Workers

Earlier this week, the United States Tennis Association had said that the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center would be used as a makeshift hospital as the New York hospitals struggled to cope with the patients of COVID-19.

On Friday, tennis legend Billie Jean King, after whom the National Tennis Center was named, posted an update on Twitter, in which the Louis Armstrong Stadium is shown being used as a food preparation and distribution center where 25,000 food packages are being prepared daily for those who are working on the frontline.

The 12 time Grand Slam singles champion tweeted, "This is Armstrong Stadium in BJK National Tennis Center. Other parts of the center will become a hospital. This stadium is a food prep & distribution center where hero staff will prepare up to 25,000 food packages daily, each w/2 days’ worth of meals for patients, workers & kids" Other parts of the facility are being used as a hospital.

New York State is the epicenter of the current pandemic in the United States and has the highest number of cases and deaths currently. Several states in the nation are currently under stay at home orders.
