Mats Wilander: 'Andy Murray deserves the Year-End No. 1'

The Year-End No. 1 in the ATP Rankings will be at stake between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic in the last round of the ATP Finals tonight, but for Mats Wilander the Glasgow Native should end the season as World No. 1 regardless of what happens on Sunday.

'Andy Murray is the best tennis player in this moment', Wilander said to Sky Sport Italy. 'I think he should be aware that he deserves the Year-End No. 1. He has been World No. 1 for a week showing to be competitive on any surface.

It's his moment. To me Murray remains No. 1 whatever happens. I mean, what he did is incredible: winning Davis Cup, the Olympics for the second time, get married, have a child. He said himself "Nole is struggling, I can do it", and he really did it.' Speaking about the last complicated months for Djokovic, Wilander finally said: 'He had a mental issue like everyone had.

No one can be at his highest level forever. If we look at Roger Federer's career, he had mental issues as well when Nadal came. It's impossible to win every match, but Novak has other years left.'
