'Nick Kyrgios' moving the needle', says legend

Nick Kyrgios, 27, was scheduled to make his Bercy debut this year. Unfortunately, we will not see Kyrgios for the first time in the last Masters of the year. Following Kyrgios' withdrawal, a place in the Paris main draw opened up for Sebastian Korda.

Since the US Open, Kyrgios has only participated in one tournament. In early October, Kyrgios reached the Tokyo quarterfinals before a knee injury forced him to give Taylor Fritz a ride. By withdrawing from Paris, Kyrgios has lost his chances of qualifying for the ATP Finals.

However, he could still appear at the ATP Finals, as he and Thanasi Kokkinakis will likely be among the Parisians who will qualify for the prestigious season-ending tournament. Kyrgios and Kokkinakis are currently the seventh pairing on the Race to Turin list.

This past weekend, Kyrgios held a question and answer session on Instagram. Responding to a question, Kyrgios suggested that he doesn't plan to play tennis beyond the age of 30—meaning he could very easily walk away from the game in the next three years.

"Honestly, probably not (I'll play past 30). I want to be able to not be bothered. I'll probably go home to the Bahamas and sit and do nothing," Kyrgios replied to a fan during a Q&A. and answers on Instagram. This season, Kyrgios has been playing the tennis of a lifetime.

Kyrgios' season started on a high note as he and Kokkinakis lifted the Australian Open men's doubles title.

McEnroe comments on Kyrgios

Tennis great John McEnroe recently discussed controversial Aussie Nick Kyrgios and claimed that he is the player that the American is currently most compared to.

"He (Nick Kyrgios) is the guy that I'm most compared to, and he's the guy that, right now, if he is committed for the next couple of years, could do some really good things in tennis," McEnroe said. "To that with Nick, he's moving the needle, and there's a lot of new fans coming into the sport because of him, so that's a real positive thing, McEnroe said, adding, "And he's electrifying in a way, I'd like to think.

Some of that I brought to the game when I came into it. We all have fear of failure, and we try to deal with it the best way we can. The best way that I believe you can is to go out and do your job to the best of your ability. Every time you do it, it's tough to do."
