John Newcombe Says Nick Kyrgios is at a Serious Crossroads

Tennis - Australian tennis legend John Newcombe says it is important to have the respect of one"s peers and that Australian youngster Nick Kyrgios will need to change his attitude on court if he wants to have a pleasant time on the tour.

Speaking to Fairfax Media, Newcombe says that Kyrgios needs to ensure that he does not tarnish the reputation that champions like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have gone to great lengths to build. Newcombe said that keeping the youngster out of this week"s Davis Cup team will help them create a sustained reputation for the Australian Davis Cup team as well.

He commented, "We are fighting to rebuild the culture of Australian tennis and what it means and when you are playing for Australia, you are representing a country that has a long tradition of outstanding champions." Newcombe also said that Kyrgios is at a serious crossroads in his career and he needs to take every opportunity that he gets instead of letting them slip by.
