Tennis - Australia's Fed Cup captain Alicia Molik says that tennis continues to remain an attractive sport for young females who want to pursue a career in professional sports. Speaking to AAP, Molik commented, "I still think tennis is the marquee sport for a lot of females wanting a professional career.
It clearly is a standout. I don't feel worried or threatened about a drain of talent. There's a lot of athletes out there that play tennis in their younger years. Our job is to keep a tennis racquet in their hand and if they have great role models like Dasha and Sam, there are no better role models in sport." Australia's leading female tennis athlete for the past decade, Samantha Stosur has said that tennis may lose out to team sports but she is happy that as long as more women opt for playing professional sports.
"Tennis has got to stand out. It's competitive. We are solo, we don't have that team and I can absolutely see how being in a team sport is very attractive. To be honest if there's more women and girls playing sport in general I think that's a good thing." Also Read - Stosur Says She Can Reach Another Grand Slam Final Next Season
