Casey Dellacqua requests Australian public to let Ash Barty grown on her own

Ash Barty was able to make it to the 3rd round of the Australian Open. It was a decent result for the 20-year-old considering she has only just returned to the sport after spending 18 months away from tennis. The 20 year olds run has been adored by the Australian public who have little to cheer for in terms of home heroes.

It has not even been a year since Barty returned to playing tennis and is also back to playing doubles alongside her old partner, Casey Dellacqua. The two reached three Grand Slam finals before Barty turned to playing cricket.

As the comeback has been adored by many, Dellacqua has asked the Australian public to not expect too much as it will only increase the burden on the 20 year olds shoulders. “I’m thrilled for her, she’s put in the hard work and it’s paying off and she’s been rewarded for that hard work,” Dellacqua said.

“I don’t think there needs to be any more expectation put on her because Ash puts enough pressure on her own shoulders to be the best she can be. She’s going through her journey, we need to let her. “Until you’ve been in her shoes and really understand what she’s been through from a young age, you probably don’t quite appreciate just how much she’s been through.

She’s had so much experience in such a short period of time. And I think she’s handled all that with so much grace and positivity so far.” Also Read: Can injured players tolerate watching tennis or players with no passion play?
