Jordan Thompson gets wildcard into Sydney International

Australian tennis player Jordan Thompson has been granted a wildcard into the Sydney International.

The rising Australian is now set to make his third in a row main draw appearance in Sydney.

The 23-year-old picked up two round-of-16 losses in his previous two appearances.

Thompson also lost in Sydney qualifying in 2013 and 2014.

Thompson, who was born in Sydney, will certainly be hoping to make it a step further in his hometown next year.

The Australian joins Japanese star Kei Nishikori and defending champion Gilles Muller in the 2018 Sydney player field.

Thompson used this year's Sydney event to prepare well for the Australian Open.

The Australian collected his first-ever Australian Open main draw singles win after beating Portuguese Joao Sousa in round one at Melbourne Park.

Rising star Dominic Thiem was too much for Thompson in the second-round.

The Sydney International is set to be held from 8-13 January.
