Australian tennis star Bernard Tomic and his sister Sara Tomic will team up to play mixed doubles at the Priceline Pharmacy Kooyong Classic, according to the Herald Sun. Bernard, 26, and 20-year-old Sara will be making their debut as a pair as they have never played together.
The 26-year-old hasn't played mixed doubles since the 2014 Hopman Cup. Bernard has rarely played mixed doubles throughout his career. Bernard picked up three consecutive Australian Open mixed doubles first round exits with three different partners in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Bernard's first mixed doubles win came at the Australian Open in 2012 when he and Jelena Jankovic won their opener but lost in the following round. Bernard then played mixed doubles at the Hopman Cup in 2013 and 2014.
On the other side, Sara has never played mixed doubles. Sara will be making her Kooyong Classic debut and her mixed doubles debut when she steps on the court a mixed doubles match with her brother at the popular Australian exhibition event.
Bernard will also be featuring the men's singles event of the Kooyong Classic. The 26-year-old has opted not to play any ATP events in the first two weeks of the season. Instead, Bernard will use the Kooyong exhibition as his preparation for the Australian Open.
