Jason Kubler explains how Tour suspension helped him heal from his injuries

Australian world No. 234 Jason Kubler is positive about his game as he is once again fully healthy and back to playing a great tennis. The Australian, who picked up a second round loss at the Monterey Challenger just before the Tour was suspended, made his return to competitive action in Brisbane, where he has claimed back-to-back titles at the UTR Pro Tennis Series.

The 27-year-old was absolutely great in the first two editions of the UTR Pro Tennis Series event in Brisbane as he didn't drop a single set in eight matches played. Now, Kubler is bidding to win his third title at the UTR Pro Tennis Series event in Brisbane as on Thursday he kicked off his new campaign with a straight-set win over Dane Sweeney.

"Right now I’m heading in the right direction and everything feels pretty good,” Kubler told Tennis Australia after claiming his second UTR Pro Tennis Series title. Kubler, who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign on the Tour in 2018, spent six months sidelined last year due to a wrist injury.

The ATP Tour has been suspended since March 12 and former world No. 91 Kubler has benefited from the extended break as he has used the time to heal from his injuries. "Having the time off actually helped my body and gave myself an extra four to six weeks of actual recovery,” Kubler said.

“I’ve gone from having to tape my wrist every hit, to now where it’s back to normal. There’s no issue with strength, there’s no issue with range and that sort of stuff. So it worked out very well for my wrist”.

Kubler happy to just have a chance to play

"I just appreciate that there’s a tournament to play in Australia,” Kubler said. “I’m enjoying playing matches again, which is always the thing. You don’t always know how you’re going to feel in a match, because you can be enjoying training but then once the emotions start coming in an actual match, you don’t know how you’re going to respond.

I’ve just been happy that I’ve been enjoying it all and wanting to run for every ball”. Kubler has been winning a lot of matches at the UTR Pro Tennis Series matches recently but he has also been watching a lot of matches from the event.

"It's interesting, I’ve watched way more tennis in the last couple of weeks than I have in the last couple of years," Kubler said.
