We signed him before Roland Garros and since then he's had a pretty intense run of tournaments that made him change his mind about the South American tour. We wish him the best of luck in 2023 and that he can play in future editions of the Rio Open”, said Luiz Carvalho, Tournament Director.

The Rio Open will enter its ninth edition and continues to bring fans closer to the best of world tennis. Part of the ATP calendar since 2014, the Rio tournament has Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Pablo Cuevas, Dominic Thiem, Diego Schwartzman, Laslo Djere, Cristian Garín and Carlos Alcaraz in its great hall of champions.

Also, names like Fabio Fognini, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Casper Ruud, Kei Nishikori, Marin Cilic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, John Isner, Gael Monfils, Marcelo Melo, Bruno Soares, Thiago Monteiro, Thomaz Bellucci, Marcelo Demoliner, André Sá, Rogério Dutra Silva, among others, also competed in the Rio Open, and the tournament brought Brazilian and international standouts from the circuit to the country's tennis fans.

Pedro Martinez called Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz "big inspirations". "Nadal and Alcaraz are such a big inspiration," Pedro Martinez expressed in response to a question from Sportskeeda, during a press conference at the 2023 Tata Open Maharashtra.

"(Over) the years we have Bruguera, Corretja, [Juan Carlos] Ferrero, [Albert] Costa, before them [Manuel] Orantes, [Manolo] Santana. Incredible number of players, David Ferrer, [Tommy] Robredo. Yes, ofcourse, watching all these guys playing and many others like Feliciano [Lopez], [Fernando] Verdasco, Guillermo-Garcia [Lopez], [Pablo] Andujar, they make you feel that you can achieve these things, that they are not impossible as many players do that," Martinez added.
