Carlos Alcaraz awaits Grigor Dimitrov in Shanghai

On day 8 of the ATP Masters 1000 in Shanghai, the protagonists of the top half of the draw for the round of 16 are on the field: the quarterfinals are up for grabs, which for some would be a habit while for others one of the greatest successes of their career.

The program on the central court of the Chinese tournament facility begins at 12:30 local time. We start with Nicolas Jarry against Diego Schwartzman. The Argentine tennis player, former number eight in the world, returned to show great tennis, after defeating the top seed Taylor Fritz, who was fighting to gain a pass to the ATP Finals in Turin.

Five precedents for the match between two South Americans: Schwartzman is ahead with four successes. Followed by another round of 16 match which cannot be predicted following the scoreboard. Hugo Humbert, who defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the previous round, will face JJ Wolf, who instead comes from the victory against the Italian Matteo Arnaldi in the third round of the Masters 1000.

In the evening session, starting from 6.30pm local time, the most anticipated round of 16 match in this part of the draw. On the field is the former world number one Carlos Alcaraz, who has to overcome the obstacle Grigor Dimitrov, in a great moment of form on a surface where he has always achieved great results.

It would be the third direct clash between the two in 2023. The first took place on the red clay of Madrid, the second on the grass of Queen's. In both cases, the Spanish tennis player emerged victorious. The other great quarter-final has a lot at stake: Tommy Paul faces Andrey Rublev.

The two are not only chasing the quarter-finals, but also a pass to the ATP Finals in Turin. The Russian is looking for mathematical qualification, the American is looking for the breakthrough to overcome his opponents, all of whom have come out of the Chinese 1000m tournament.

On the second court, however, there will be the challenges of the doubles tournament: singles player Cameron Norrie continues his journey, paired with Rinky Hijikata.
