The Elon University women's tennis team gets two convincing wins against the Hampton University Pirates (3-6) and the Methodist University Monarchs (1-3) during the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, as reported by the Elon University website.
The top-seeded doubles duo for Phoenix, consisting of junior Lizette Reding and senior Sibel Tanik, quickly won their first doubles match and did so by the nature of a 6-0 golden set. The duo are now 6-3 in doubles on the season.
Freshman Helen Sarikulaya and sophomore Miray Konar grabbed the first point for the Phoenix to win their game 6-1. Head coach Elizabeth Anderson said she believes the strength of the competition Elon faced today will help the Phoenix move forward: "It was just for us to be really disciplined and focused and keep working on every single player's plays and doubles as well." I think everyone made a lot of good improvements today."
