Stockton, Calif. - Pacific men's tennis junior Miguel Diaz will open the 2015-16 season ranked in the top 125 among singles players by the ITA. Diaz is ranked No. 124 in the Preseason Oracle/ITA Division I Men's National Singles Rankings.
Diaz was named to the All-WCC First Team for singles in 2014-15, and earned All-WCC Doubles Honorable Mention with partner Jose Chamba. Overall, Diaz finished the season 19-15 in singles play and with 15 wins in doubles play.
He posted 12 singles victories in the spring, with nine coming out of the No. 1 position, including a win over nationally ranked No. 58 Uros Petronijevic. In the opening of fall action this season, Diaz teamed with Sem Verbeek for three doubles victories last weekend at the Silverado Invitational, and picked up a singles victory over Hawai'i.
"It's great to see Miguel rewarded for a solid 2014-15 year," head coach Ryan Redondo said. "It's just a start and Miguel knows there is a lot more to develop in his game in order to reach his own personal goals.
Miguel's work ethic has improved tremendously and his effort and focus is on the right path to lead him higher up the rankings. Another goal he had for this year was to qualify for the All-American Championships and that too he has been awarded with.
He is doing great in the classroom and I look forward to seeing him five his best effort this year." The Tigers are in action at the Battle of the Bay Classic starting Friday. .
