Big Ten regular season and tournament champions, Ohio State Buckeyes, had a full share of postseason awards, with 4 players in all-conference team, chose by 14 head coaches. Francesca Di Lorenzo was named both Player and Freshman of the Year, and Melissa Schaub is the Coach of the Year (she won the award last year as well).
In addition to Di Lorenzo, other 3 Buckeye girls were also included in all-Big Ten team, Gabriella De Santis, Miho Kowase, and Anna Sanford. Freshman Francesca Di Lorenzo had a dream season, finishing with 11-0 score on the main court position.
She spent the entire season among the Top 5 girls in singles, also being ranked 1st in February (first Buckeye ever to be at the top), leading her team towards their first Big Ten Championship and first Big Ten Tournament title.
Only for the 5th time in conference history one player managed to win both player of the year and freshman of the year award. This was the 3rd time that Buckeyes have given the player of the year (Kristy Dascoli in 2000 and 2001), and also the freshman of the year.
Gabriella De Santis was also amazing during the Big Ten play, scoring 6-0 in singles and 8-0 in doubles matches. Miho Kowase had a run of 17 wins in a row, she was also undefeated in conference play (8-0) and with an impressive 21-2 score in dual matches.
Anna Sanford was 22-7 overall, and she also stormed through the Big Ten field, with 10-0 score. Behind Ohio State, Michigan and Northwestern have 3 players each in All-Big Ten team, with 14 girls among the awarded for their on-court sportsmanship, all from different schools.
