Div. I / M: Auburn edges University of Central Florida 4-3 for the winning start of the season

USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, was the site of the season opener for Auburn Tigers, and in his debut as the head coach Bobby Reynolds managed to outplay University of Central Florida Knights by 4-3. Bad weather prolonged the start of the match, but once it kicked off the crowd could enjoy a real thriller. The Knights led 3-2 after first 4 singles matches but the Tigers made that final push to grab the remaining two encounters and bring the win home in a season opener.

Chris Barrus/Enrique Paya grabbed the opening doubles match, beating Brandon Laubser/Carles Sarrio 6-1 on court 3, but Auburn had a respond ready on the remaining two courts. Max Hinnisdaels/Conner Huertas del Pino toppled Harrison Richmond/Mariano Porter 6-3 on the main court to level the score, before Dante Saleh/Edward Nguyen gave the Tigers the first point, following a 6-4 triumph over Korey Lovett/Kalman Boyd.

Singles action started with a commanding 6-2 6-1 win for Carles Sarrio against Kalman Boyd on court 2, moving Auburn 2-0 in front, and it was Chris Barrus who put the Knights on the scoreboard, taking down Dante Saleh 6-4 6-1 on court 5 to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Central Florida was right there when Harrison Richmond defeated Conner Huertas del Pino 6-2 6-3 on court 3, leveling the score at 2-2 and making all remaining matches extremely important. The Knights even got in front when Korey Lovett edged Max Hinnisdaels 7-5 7-6 on the main court, moving his team one win away from the overall win, but the Tigers were pretty much alive on courts 4 and 6 where the encounters went into a decider.

Edward Nguyen kept Auburn in contention with a strong finish against Mariano Porter, celebrating by 6-3 3-6 6-1 to level the score at 3-3, and all eyes were set on the court 6, where Brandon Laubser prevailed against Danny Kerznerman in the best match of the day by 7-6 3-6 7-5 to clinch the 4th and the final point for Auburn Tigers, who made a winning start of the season.
